And that verdict about desi-expatriates making brown of green pastures--was that a fact or should we ignore it? What about the >They deserve to stay and rot in India. and

Take care :-).

Sorry, I did not relaise you did not like my response. May be you should say like this:

These NRIs are looking for green pastures, and are angry why the India they left has not turned out to be green yet for them to retire.

So your answer should be:
"Thank you for your advise. As you know, I am already in green pasture in USA. I have not intention of going back to the brown pastures in India.
And now that you realise, that India is not green, I would advise you to look for green pastures elsewehere."

You may also give these NRIs another advce. If they wear green sun glass, they might see the pasture green. That is to say, lot of time, it is in the eyes of the beholder.

O' Rajen:

Bor dangor-dangor kotha koi dila dei :-).

Here are a few counter-points/clarifications:

** These are NOT my friends. No reason they could not be. I have
friends  who are far more confused.

** I posted the comments to illustrate that there are views out there,
among real-INDIANS, that debunk the many self-righteous and/or ignorant
assertions made by kharkhowa-Indians here in Assam Net.

        > we Indians

** Speak for yourself. *I* am NOT one of *you* Indians. My nationality
is American and ethnicity is Assamese.  I didn't realize you had
        dual citizenship.

** HOW do you know the writer has not done anything to change things ?
And how does anyone go about changing things if the only way they
are familiar with is the way they grew up with? What did you do for
example, before YOU left?  And what would YOU do if you returned?

** The folks who advised the writer are an NRI and an ex-NRI, who
has obviously become disillusioned  after returning, demonstrating
that little has changed, unlike the many assertions of
        kharkhowa-Indians.

        >There are many Indians who like to blame everything on Indians as if they themselves are above it

*** Heh-heh-heh! Those things sting, don't they? But hurling them
back at me does not work. It is like attempting to hurt a bee with its
        own sting.

        >You should ask them if they are looking for brown pasture so that they can try to make these green

** Why me? If you have problems with it, why don't you go ask?

        >These Indians are always looking for green pasture, turn green by somebody
        >else, so that they can make these brown.

** Oooh! What a verdict! Is it another sudden discovery, an
eureka moment? Can you show us some examples of how those who
left turned green-pastures brown outside India? Or are you speaking
from your own record, thereby cautioning the would-be expatriates?

        >Your friends are typical Indians.

        ** Tell me something I don't know.

        >They deserve to stay and rot in India.

** Now let me see where that deduction came from. They are my
friends. They are typically Indians. Thus they deserve to STAY and
ROT in India? ------ I see!

        >Let them rest in haven.

** That too? You are being really rough on your fellow men, man!

What's the matter? Got out on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

Looks like your friends, themselves Indians, donot know what they are talking about.  I have not seen anything in their statement which they tried to do to improve and failed.  If you analyse, you will find that what they in fact are telling is that we Indians (including the friends) are bad, corrupt, divided on caste-religion, arrogant, unhygenic, and that Indians (including the friends) do not abide by law and order, do politics in works, etc etc.  In light of above they are telling other Indians to stay away from India. I hope they are also telling this to their children.

There are many Indians who like to blame everything on Indians as if they themselves are above it. That itself is an Indian trait.
You should ask them if they are looking for brown pasture so that they can try to make these green, or if they are looking for green pasture so that being Indians they want to make these brown with their Indian characteristics. These Indians are always looking for green pasture, turn green by somebody else, so that they can make these brown.

Your friends are typical Indians.  They deserve to stay and rot in India.
Let them rest in haven.
