Subject: Re: [Assam] Fulfilling a dream?
Umesh's, like so many others' from India, 'dreams' are formed with
the profoundly faulty notion that getting this degree or that or
getting a top ranking in exams. or even getting admitted to this or
that institution, is the END, the GOAL. Education as preparation,
just the beginning, and learning as something more than mere means
for a livelihood is an alien idea.
There are a number of reasons how this faulty notion took hold and
has not yet been shaken loose, even amongst those who live in
societies where the 'degree culture' is not pervasive.
