>From the AT _______________ *RPF warns against import of meethapati *From Sobhapati Samom IMPHAL,Oct 25 – Manipur-based outfit Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has warned the Indian Airlines and other transport agencies against helping in bringing the banned meethapati (betel leaf) into the State in future.
The import and sale of meethapati has been banned in Manipur since October 15 last.The outfit has imposed a blanket ban on import and sale of zarda, khaini and talab in Manipur since the last four years. The outfit said those whosoever involved in import and sale of the meethapati, violating the ban order, would be "considered for punishment". The outfit also claimed the responsibility for killing one non-local Prasad (35), who worked as an agent of meethapati, zarda and khaini at Ningthoukhong in Manipur's Bishnupur district. He was awarded capital punishment on Monday at around 6.30 pm for failing to heed to the repeated warnings of the outfit. In a statement, assistant secretary, communication and publicity of the outfit, Lily Leima said that Prasad had been working as an agent of zarda, khaini and meethapati in the State for the last 15 years. In spite of the ban imposed on zarda and khaini by the outfit long ago and the subsequent ban on meethapati since October 15 this year, Prasad continued to supply these harmful substances with complete disregard to the warnings given to him, the statement said.
