<<One of the biggest things we loose - that a lot of people don't realize,
is that bigger and effective orgs. have better bargaining powers. Maybe not
in the US, but NRI's can definitely make more effective changes back home
(in Assam &in India ) with the interest of Assamese people at heart.>>
Ram, I agree with you. You see, a giant community by virtue of it's sheer numbers, has the luxury to maintain independent identity of their respective orgs and continue to carry out the wishes of it's membership. But in a tiny community like ours, this line of rationality simply does not exist. I don't suppose, the fact that there is a need for orchestration by all the different orgs to speak in one voice, is very hard to grasp. On one end of the spectrum, there has been endless lamentation by AANA/AFNA or whoever, about their inability to fill their executive chairs due to dearth of people and on the other end, they are prepared to chew ground glass rather than uniting themselves into one. If the rate of participation is that abysmal, can the few at the vanguard risk isolation by speaking to a cause far removed from the mainstream?
If the sole objective of the Assamese orgs is just to hold the yearly "mahashabha," with the same faces and no variation, then any "Horokanto" or "Krishnokanto" has the ability to do that.
KJD.
