Dear Group members, With a very heavy heart i am writing this to you. The voice with the touch of the soil of Assam is no more! Me and many others of my generation cannot forget the songs like Shil Pai Jopiyay, Aji Bohag Ahile buli, Laj Lage and so on. Few maonths back, my friend Rashananda Gogoi, interviewd her for a serial on another legendary, Luit Konwar Rudra Barua. Probably, that is her last formal interview in Assam.
Her singing style was very original, with a forceful voice, and she sang so effortlessly that unless u see her singing, u dont know that it could be so effortless. In all the 3 octaves she used to sing with equal ease. I mst say, my childhood and a large part of youth has passed amidst the beauty of these immerorable songs and the likes. Now we must take definite steps to preserve her voice. They must not be lost amidst the prevailing "Be-xuriya Bihu cum Tokari Geets" of the present days. I also draw attention of the people involved with AIR-Guwahati. They must be having most of her songs. May god give us and her family members strength to bear this irrepairable loss. sukumar baishya
