The news of Anima Chakravartty's passing was although not unexpected was one of
great sense of loss to our Assamese community. Personally, I believe, her
rendition of Bihu with great gusto and innate spirit, intrinsic to her own
inner spirit, brought her audiance and the dance participants a renewed vigor
every time she was on the stage for 'Mukali Bihu' in the Assam Conventions.
Those occasions I shall never forget.

My first meeting with Anima was prior to the 13th Assam Convention held in
Austin in July 1992. (Kumkum was Anima's neighbor in Shillong and knew her)
Anima and Prof. Iswar Chakravartty were our house guests and came to Austin a
few days ahead of the convention. Prof. Biren Dutta, the chief guest of the
convention, was also with us. I shall not forget those few days of lively music
and great company. Since that first meeting with the Chakravarttys, I have met
this wonderful Assamese couple on many occasions over the years and thoroughly
enjoyed their company and particularly Anima's vibrant music. That music I will
surely miss in future Assam Conventions.

With Anaima's passing, this world is a lesser place to live. May her soul and
spirit rest in eternal peace in the heavenly abode that she graces now. May God
also grant Prof. Chakravartty and his family the strength to bear through the
great personal loss to them.

I am also taking the liberty to request the 2007 Assam Convention committee to
plan a special event in honor of Late Anima Chakravartty. For that event, ideas
should be requested from the various regions of AANA (Assam Association of
North America).
