There are certain things which can at best be
described as our wish list.

We may wish that there was no illegal immigrants to
our land between 1948 and 1972. We may wish that we
could drive out all those through a new movement. We
could wish that we take a big eraser wipe the
existence of Bangladesh once for all to solve this
migration issue.

But unless you follow the examples of Hitler and
establish all those concentration camps or gas
chambers, how exactly do you expel all these millions
of people ?

Think practically. It would be a political, logistical
and humanitarian challenge to banish millions of those
people who have resided in our land for nearly half a
century.

We should definitely preserve our culture and
identity. But whether we like it or not, we have to
learn to accommodate the so called migrants . The
solution lies in extending economic co-operation
between Assam and its neighbors which will ensure
that there is uniform economic opportunity in both
sides of border and which will eventually discourage
unidirectional migration purely on economic grounds.

Whether we like it or not, we have to realize Human
Migration is a very basic trait of homo-sapiens and
will always continue.

Otherwise, your and my forefathers will still be
tilling the soils in the upper reaches of the Great
Yantze River in China. Going further back in history,
may be we could still be digging for water holes in
the sub-saharan Africa. Check this out from National
