The basic thing Assamese IAS/ACS officers follow him is to have "back-bone of their own" in the complex political system of our country/state. And Mr. Ashok Saikia had it 'straight'. Moreover, he was one of the very few Bureaucrats who could stand upto the politicans of any party. And that was one of the main reason, most of the politician respected him. So obviously Ashok Saikia could not have been only DC of undivided Darrang. He could have occupied other posts too in his career like Commissioner Education. In fact Ashok Saikia was the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong before he became the DC of Darrang.
