I can't take credit for pointing out the flaw in using a CS to manipulate linked lists of the type we are discussing there. I read this warning in the PoPS in Appendix A, page 50 titled Free-Pool Manipulation. If I've mis-read and mis-quoted what is said here I apologize. That said, I have personally been called in the middle of the night because a program of mine misbehaved, the fix to which was the addition of the fullword counter and the change from CS to CDS. That said, the technique you have described is very good and the reordering must be performed so that the events are processed in the order they occurred. It's just the CS vs. CDS that I think is the issue. Andy Coburn
