I take it that you're referring to using a guard area, and using
CHANGEGUARD to convert guard space to usable space as needed.

Interesting idea, and one that hadn't occurred to me before.  (I should
have read the Extended Addressability Guide more thoroughly, I suppose;
but the term "guard area" for this purpose is rather misleading.)  Thank
