It is common---quasi-obligatory in certain Monte Carlo computations---to discard an initial set of sampling observations or treat them as insignificant.
The notion is that what is being observed must reach a steady state before meaningful measurement is possible and that [for the usual Heisenberg-principle reasons] the values of early observations may be perturbed by the initiation of the sampling process itself.
