The maintainability (or otherwise) of code has little to do with the
specific language in which it is written, but rather in how *well* it
was written *and* documented in the first place. I have seen plenty of
well-written assembler code that is clear and understandable, and a lot
of C code that is precisely the opposite. And of course there are many
inverse examples, too.

However, just because a particular language (in this case assembler) is
not understood by the majority of programmers, it does not mean programs
written in that language are hard to maintain.
