The timeout is customizable. You are really discussing here the value
of a SPF timeout feature? Amazing.

I understand the timeout is customizable. My first question was regarding the default timeout in comparison to the defaults used by DNS servers.

May I ask why is this "amazing"? Do I have to feel apologetic because I want to understand why something is a good feature? Letting me freely ask questions is a good thing since I'm the one that primarily maintains the wiki.

"SPF specific" means here, that there is no timeout built into the SPF
module.

I was not aware of that, hence the origin of my initial question.
The SPF lookup is *very* dangerous, because it depends on the quality
of the foreign dns.

Understandable, and very much appreciated.

I have a lot of reports where SPF with bad responses slows ASSP
considerably down. With the timeout, these sites reported excellent
success.

Knowing now that the SPF module has no built-in timeout, this all makes sense. My questions originated with the thought that since an SPF check is a DNS query, that SPF timeouts would be the same as other DNS-related timeouts.

Along that line of thought - what is the benefit of having the SPF timeout different than other DNS queries?
