I know it's there, Fritz; but FBMTV is for backscatter
detection/rejection
and it's unique to ASSP, whereas "hashcash" is used to detect "good"
or, better said, "not too bad" messages and is more widely used (some
mailservers already implement it), so, while FBMTV is a really good
weapon, I think that "hashcash" may be another good one
Nevertheless if it is worth to help others in finding out about the
quality of ASSP outgoing mails we will implement it. How many
installations are out there? I never saw a hashcash header.

Wow - it's been a few years since I've heard mention of hashcash.
Doing a review - hashcash helps (theoretically) with sending. So it
won't decrease the spam volume into an ASSP server - but is supposed
to increase the efficiency of sending from the ASSP server. The
hashcash faq makes the argument that because SpamAssassin and TMDA
have implemented hashcash detection, and SpamAssassin is widely used -
sending with hashcash will improve transmission efficiency.
I remember this topic being kicked around before (not necessarily on
this list) with an unfavorable consensus. I don't know how much true
benefit ASSP users would see, compared to the additional complexity -
and hardware requirements - for supporting this concept.

Right/wrong/indifferent - one of the realities we must acknowledge is
AOL is one of the largest email providers. So while we may not
necessarily agree with their policies - and not necessarily take them as
a model - one thing that should be done is making sure as senders we
comply with their requirements.
I don't see anything about hashcash being referenced by AOL's recipient
policy - though they do mention DKIM. The biggest item I see is anyone
who runs a mail server should take advantage of their whitelist system
by filling out their application. It's certainly not as easy as ASSP's
auto-whitelisting - but then again, it's a different environment.
The relevant page is

Probably got me off-topic - but I was tracing down some rumors that AOL
had implemented hashcash - haven't found any truth to it yet.
