Did you try to follow Micheal's suggestion?

SMTP Properties.  Delivery Tab.  Outbound Security.
Chose Basic authentication, and enter a username / pw.


Also, you can always try using a different local relay server like 
hMailServer (w32 open source) that does allow for it as well.
