Yes, this was my method when I began using ASSP. Another possibility is that 
you kick start your ASSP by downloading this file:

okmail isn't used to build the spamdb - but it's a good place to monitor for 
errors since there should be no spam in this folder. I sometimes take a look in 
this folder and move the spam/notspam to the correct folders to include them in 
the spamdb corpus.
