I really think you should rethink this.  For one thing, the support issue
pointed out by Fritz and others is pretty obvious.  If this strategy fails,
I'm guessing you aren't going to have a lot of places to go for help.
 
Since you aren't the only one that reported this problem, I'm guessing maybe
an update broke Perl?
 
I'm all in favor of "don't fix it if it ain't broke" but in your case, it's
broke!   I think you should take the opportunity to update Perl and ASSP.
You'll get all the help you need here.
