http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Mail/Message/ppm/3379073 seems to indicate
that perhaps ActivePerl 5.8.8.819 has no capacity to extract from a zip

I have downloaded 5.10.0.1003 in the hope that this will get around the problem
but it won't install over the top of the existing installation.
Does anyone have any experience of uninstalling ActivePerl then installing a
newer version?
Will it require me to reinstall everything or will it remember it somehow?

I really don't want to go through it all again - I am playing around with
setting up ActivePerl on another system in the hope that I can get it where I
need and perhaps copy the structure across but it's giving me errors like:
Unpacking perl-ldap-0.34...ppm install failed: Can't extract files from
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\ppm-GELdUI/perl-ldap-0.34.tgz

I can't seem to get ahead right now and any further help is appreciated.
Otherwise I guess I'm going back to 1.3.3.10 :-/

I added UWinnipeg then disabled it as well as the ActiveState repo
ppm install --force Mail::SPF
still returns:
ppm install failed: Don't know how to unpack
http://trouchelle.com/ppm/MSWin32-x86-multi-thread-5.8/Mail-SPF-v2.005.zip

I wonder if there's a way to extract some files from
http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/J/JM/JMEHNLE/mail-spf/Mail-SPF-v2.005.tar.gz
 and have them installed manually.

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant but the only time I ever deal with PERL is when
working with ASSP, and those times are very rare.

add the following repositories to ppm

http://trouchelle.com/ppm/package.xml
http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/package.lst

i.e. use the commands

ppm rep add Trouchelle http://trouchelle.com/ppm/package.xml
ppm rep add UWinnipeg http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/package.lst

next, disable any other repositories and leave only
the Trouchelle one enabled; at this point do a search
and you'll find the updated SPF package; do a force
install and then re-enable the repositories
