I tried to migrate from sugarcrm to vtiger, which was a pita.
When doing the upgrade, the conversion script drops the mail table, for
unknown reasons. So i guess there is no email support in vtiger :)

Both otrs and request tracker are in the debian distro. You could
install debian stable or testing on an old PC or a virtual machine ot
evaluate the packages a bit and then choose a winner.
As for sugarcrm, if you don't like the current licensing they use look
at http://www.vtiger.com/
Vtiger is a fork that was created using the last release of sugarcrm
that was still under a true open source license.

otrs and request tracker are perl
sugarcrm and vtiger are php

Hello List,
Does anyone know of a web based software that I can keep track of work
done for clients (where I can add notes etc). I need something for
several techs to be able to log in see work being done for clients,
any problems etc. (i.e. If there is a team working on a clients phone
system - I can start the work, put in notes on what I did and the
night tech can log in and look at the ticket, see what I did and go
on). I dont mind a paid solution.
