Oh my god, it works! This is a nice friday! Thanks for the tip. In the end, what I did was I retraced my steps, and I realized I hadn't connected the card to a power cable, and I had the signalling on zapata.conf backwards... Also I disabled most of the devices on the motherboard, including USB (good thing you can control Linux from another machine quite easily!) so the card wouldn't share its IRQ.

wcfxo is used only for the X100P (and some clones). It is not used for any other card. wctdm supports both FXO and FXS. Maybe you are just confused about which module is associated with which channel.
