I also agree, after some initial testing I found the quality from unlimitel.ca to be very clear and no drop outs. Finally took the time to configure my PBX for outgoing calls on the weekend and now I use it exclusively for that. It's really nice to get the daily statements in my inbox to find that with all the long distance toronto calls I havent even burned through my fist dollar. Until I get my FXS card I am rerouting incoming calls out to my bell land line so I can use a normal phone:

incoming call (unlimitel) -> my PBX -> outgoing call(unlimitel) -> PSTN -> my land line

And there is no noticeable delay. Paying another 1.1 cents a minute for the call forwarding is still a drop in the bucket.

I have been encountering some problems, where my server will just randomly stop accepting incoming calls. Phone the DID number and it will ring once and then get busy signal, Reboot server and it will work fine again. Im not sure what the problem is but Im guessing its the fact that I only have 64 MB of RAM. If anyone knows an other reason or solution to stop asterisk from doing this let me know.

I agree! I just signed up with Unlimitel yesterday, and had our system
up and running within a couple of hours. Fantastic quality, I didn't
hear any difference between our Bell phone line and Unlimitel's VoIP.
The codec they're using is use G.711 ulaw (64Kbps), which is the same
as your standard phone line.

In my scenario, I'm supporting 4-5 users with the majority of incoming
call traffic coming from Toronto and Kitchener, so I purchased DID's
for both cities to allow people there to call us locally. Now I just
need to find a comparable supplier for Vancouver.

Has anyone looked into the 800 service from Selectcom?

Some easy to digest tidbits:
- Most areas they cover, phone numbers (DID's) are $2.50/mo [1]
- You're billed for usage like a cellphone for in and outbound calls
-- only the rate is much lower, 1.1¢/min. So a 60 minute phone call
would cost you $0.66
- All outbound calls to locations [2] that they have a presence are
billed as local calls
- Calls to other locations in the US & Canada (excluding NW
territories) are 4¢/min
- By default, you can have five simultaneous in/outbound calls, which
I believe is a limit that can be increased upon request.
