I didn't know they blocked SMTP, I don't need to use their POP3 so I use the SMTP for three IMAP accounts. If you are running an email server then I guess this could be an issue. I think these guys could be missing an opportunity They should offer a special business deal 6megs up/6megs down no port blocking.
I just completed my final test :
5.5 megs down / 796kbs up (which I think is pretty near the theoretical limits)

I 'm a speed freek !

Henry

I ended up calling them, and they seem to have a pretty good solution.
In order to get cable internet, you need to disconnect your Rogers
first.
However, you can sign up with "dry loop" DSL service with them, and then
swap back to cable.

The only reason I can't go with them is that they block port 25
(SMTP/mail).
Not sure if they provide relay servers, but I'll wait and see.

No the service uses the existing cable, I've just done some more speed
testing and I now dowload at 5.3 mbs
4 times faster than with Rogers. The upload is about 650 kbs but that's
life I guess.
I did venture into getting DSL but the speed was very poor due to being
some distance from the CO.

Bjorn,

No, Bell wholesalers are also able to offer this service now. I know because, we offer DSL.

Hi Henry,

Are you on DSL now? If so, do they provide "dry-loop" DSL?
As far as I know, only Sympatico/Bell will offer DSL without a
landline.

Hi all, I've just dumped Rogers and went to 3web, and so far it's been a really good move . I was paying nearly $50 per month for residential service and getting about 1.5 mbs download speed (on a good day) After a very low introductory offer I will be paying $40 per month and getting 2.8 mbs

download plus an unlimited number of email accounts........So sing along with me:

"Pack up all your cares and woe
Here I go, swinging low
Bye, bye Rogers......."

Also I have been able to have the handset surgically removed from my ear now that I don't have to call Rogers anymore.

Have a better one :-)
