In our experience it varies with the location. Some customers are pretty
far away from COs and the db loss is very noticeable. We had to increase
gain with our system even though, without asterisk, our phones were a
suitable volume.
We have an rxgain of 10 on Digium TDM400 cards.
Our customer who is about 13kft away from a CO has rxgain of 8.0 and
txgain of 3.0 on an A200 with hardware echo can. We had to be careful
there and on the Digium TDM24xxp, high gains caused the hw echo can to
remove audio it shouldn't. It ended up being choppy audio.
