Hi John,

One small concern about that little Linksys box is the limited number of
sessions it can handle. I used to put Linux firmware into WRT54G and it
just worked fine until thounsands of concurrent sessions happened. It
just became irresponsive and I had to reboot it. I tried fine tune the
kernel parameters but could not get it fixed. Then I turned to general
Intel platform with obviously more memory and this did the trick.
As pointed out before, there are different "versions" and some have more
cpu speed, ram, flash and usb ports then others.

Forgot to mention, most of the linux firmwares pre-allocate 1/2 the ram
for tmpfs, when only 2-3M (size of the new firmware) is actually needed.

In the case of devices with 32M of ram, this means ~14M is allocated to
tmpfs, when at least 10M more can be allocated for the system/buffers/etc

Yes. RAM is the major concern here as WRT54G comes with ram from 4MB to 32MB according to http://wiki.openwrt.org/TableOfHardware.
