Hey Chuck:
What Matthew actually needs is a "device", which follows SIP standards
and is able to transmit (and receive) H.264/H.263 (in brief).
**CATCH 22**
- 1) This SIP device should have an HDMI out (to connect to a TV)
- 2) The device should also have some sort of HD Camera input
2.a) This would allow any HD camera for video input
2.b) If there is no HD camera input, then at least a decent built
in HD camera.
(Matthew - please correct me if I am wrong).
There are *TWO* devices which come somewhat ***close*** to what I
described above (with built in HD camera) but unfortunately this is not
open SIP standards. They run exclusively Skype or Gtalk.
1) TelyHD (http://www.tely.com/)
2) Biscotti (http://www.biscotti.com)
One of the units (if not both) actually has Android built in.
I've had detailed conversation with both manufacturers and I indicated
to them my disinterest to use Skype or Gtalk, and explained the benefits
of SIP open standards -- allowing smaller ITSPs to offer this to their
clients. They said, "They **may** consider an open SIP unit in the
future, but they have no plans for this in the immediate future.
The other open SIP standard device that does this (but not HDMI) is the
Sysmaster Tornado M10.
(http://www.sysmaster.com/products/set_top_box.php). This device is
unfortunately end of life and Standard Definition (RCA connectors).
I suspect only a matter of time before someone comes up an open SIP
standards version of the TelyHD & Biscotti. My prediction is 12 months
from now (with a little luck perhaps less).
I actively use almost all Video Phones available in the market that has
open SIP standards - and so far Yealink VP530 is the best bang for the
buck. Had video output to connect to an external TV source - but no
HDMI output. Ryan Mayoff - VP of Run Communications sells the Yealink
units (www.RunCommunications.com)
Cheers!
Reza.

Hi Mathew...
Any reason why it needs to be SIP based if it is just going from one camera to
one TV? I assume I am reading that wrong (you said you don't need conferencing
so sounds like just a video feed to a TV). Is it a security system? A video
feed?
I have been looking at using the almost released Axis security cameras (newer
models seem very cool... PoE, 720p, TCP/IP, record to local SD slot/card AND
dump to a network share for recording).... NOT SIP Based. Free software for
Windows and iPhone/Android, etc... for live viewing the camera(s). More
advanced software licensing available.
You could throw a small form factor PC with HDMI out and view the video stream
using the AXIS for windows/mac software.
I also think that Samsung Smart/Internet TV's currently have a camera app that
can monitor some models of AXIS cameras feeds (others?) So you could internet
connect your Samsung, download the app... and setup camera monitoring. Keep in
mind, you would have to power the TV on, go to internet options and run the
app... so not exactly instant/dedicated.

Subject: [on-asterisk] SIP Video Conferencing Endpoint - Hardware question
I'm looking for what I thought would be an easy thing to find but apparently
I'm looking for something that just doesn't exist. I'm hoping someone on this
list can help me find what I'm looking for.
What I need is a simple SIP video endpoint with a camera that does HD output to
a TV. Think the Cisco Umi but using open SIP. A settop box with a camera, a
SIP account, and an HDMI output. Every solution I've found is ether tied to a
proprietary network (the Umi, etc), doesn't exist any more, or includes the
ability to do conferencing (which I don't need).
Does any one know of any device that does what I want? It seems like a logical
thing but no one appears to sell it.
Thanks!
