I had not heard of eBox but checked out the basic specs and cannot see any good reason why this setup would give you any trouble with Astlinux ... That said, I think I would buy one (1) unit and experiment with it a little before I committed the money required to buy 25-50 ... But its your money so use your own best judgement on such things ...
To take full advantage of the features in Astlinux, I think I would want a box with at least 2 Network adapters ... What this would let you do is setup 50 of them each on a unique private IP address block and have them route calls to each other just like they would do via the Internet ... So each box would have an "internal network" where you would connect the phone (maybe on IP=192.168.xxx.0/24) and an external network where you would connect to a common switch (maybe on IP=10.0.0.0/24) ... I think this would make for a pretty slick lab, but may be more complex than you are interested in messing with ... The problem I see is that if were to have all 50 on the same network, each with at least 1 (one) associated phone, you are going to have a devil of time controlling DHCP and TFTP provisioning of your phones ... And these are pretty much fundamental techniques/considerations ... But there are many ways to work around this so you may already have a plan ... Bottom line is I think the eBox gadget should run Astlinux in server only mode just fine ... Hello astlinux community, I am planning on incorporating a VOIP lab in the 'networks' course that I teach. We will probably be purchasing about 25-50 units of SBC based hardware. The choice narrows down to two contenders: net4801 and the eBox 3850ps (see http://www.wdlsystems.com/ebox/ebox.shtml) I have had good experience with the net4801, but the eBox is under serious consideration since it has integrated video, and kbd and mouse connectors ... makes it a bit easier for the student/teaching assistant. Plus, it has a 800 MHz processor, which though a Via processor, has to be quite a bit faster than the Geode in the net4801. Regardless of the purchase, we plan to run 'astlinux' on the hardware. I was wondering if anyone here has had good or bad experiences with the Via based eBox systems using astlinux. Of course, we will be ordering an evaluation system next week, but is there anything that we should know of in advance? Thanks in advance, for your response. -- Sarvesh _______________________________________________ Astlinux-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.kriscompanies.com/mailman/listinfo/astlinux-users Donations to support AstLinux are graciously accepted via PayPal to [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Astlinux-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.kriscompanies.com/mailman/listinfo/astlinux-users Donations to support AstLinux are graciously accepted via PayPal to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
