I will echo an interest in this issues ... I have been able to implement
the Sangoma A200 Analog card quite easily using Debian, CentOS and Gentoo
flavors of Linux and build from scratch Asterisk ... However, all my
attempts to integrate the "./Setup intstall" routines into the Astlinux
build environment have met with failure ... I was not surprised by this as I
was warned that the task might be byond my limited ability ...

I have been in touch with Sangoma tech support ... At one point they
indicated that they were putting some effort into this but they have been
silent on the issue since mid December ... At one point they flat told me
that their focus is on TrixBox as that seems to be where most of the demand
is ... They indicated that their limited resources have to be used where it
will satisfy the greatest need ...

I would be quite happy if someone a lot smarter than me could provide a
pre-compiled set of drivers including patched kernel and zap drivers along
with some clues as to how to install them ... If it is just too difficult to
integrate Sangoma support into the Astlinux build environment, this might be
an atlternative that would work for some of us ...

I understand that this would make it hard to move forward with updates and
would lock my system into using a particular kernel ... But if I think that
if I could get the system to work reliably, I would be quite happy to leave
it alone for an extended period without modification ...

Back in October as mentioned inline, Sangoma donated a card for development
in the Astlinux environment...Does anyone know what came about with the
Sangoma/Astlinux Integration?

Barry (and others),

As Darrick pointed out, Sangoma has an EXCELLENT software
installation and configuration mechanism. It works perfectly on every
machine, every Linux distro, etc that I have ever tried to run it on.
However, this comes at a sacrifice - it makes a lot of assumptions about the
location of files on the system and was not designed to support cross
compiling.
It is also quite large. The Setup script is several thousand lines long.

I have been able to get it to compile against recent versions of
AstLinux. However, my current solution requires a HUGE amount of patching.
Every time Sangoma releases a new version, which is often (that's a good
thing), there is a good chance that I would have to rework significant
portions of the patch. This requires a lot of time, and I don't want to end
up in a situation (like with mISDN lately) where it takes so much time it
can't be done reliably from release to release.
mISDN was missing from a couple of releases, but now it is back.
That is not acceptable to me and I want to work very hard to make sure
something like that never happens again.

As of yesterday, Sangoma has promised me a donation (presumably) for

working on this issue. No bounty is necessary, and I won't take any
donations from you guys for this. Thank Sangoma for doing the right thing
and supporting AstLinux directly!
