John, I can't speak for Kristian, but the patch needs to be looked at closer to ensure it would not adversely affect other users. Is this still an issue with zaptel 1.4? If not, then I see no reason to pursue this. Zaptel 1.4 can be used with Asterisk 1.2. If there's a patch available for 1.4, please direct me to the right place. We're more apt to look at new patches for new development rather than compromise stable releases.
