Hey everyone (and this means the very newest people on this list too),

We need your assistance as we release the brand spanking new 0.6.0
releases. The documentation on the Astlinux website
http://www.astlinux.org has been updated to reflect some of the more
recent changes. It's important that we get help reviewing these steps,
ensuring that what's on there actually works as advertised.

As developers, sometimes there are steps we may overlook because we're
so familiar with the process.

Hi Darrick,

First let me say that I am not a Linux expert, I know enough to understand and follow a 'recipe'.

I have been running two locations of Astlinux, both for about 2 years, one at my work, and one at home, which I guess is the test system for the work system

I have been reluctant to update, simply because of the issues involved with this.

Your new setup looks great, so I thought I would start out by loading it on to a basic low power system (a Wrap 2C board, then an ALIX 1C, that I have tested with previously.

I loaded a CF card with Runnix using Physdiskwrite, and plugged it in, and up it came. First difference is that I didn't need to log in as it came up to the command prompt. I even tried to login as root, but got the following response

/mnt/base/os $
/mnt/base/os $ login
(none) login: root
login: no valid shadow password
/mnt/base/os $

I also noticed at the end of the boot on an ALIX 1C now the following on boot

ls: *.run: NoEXT2-fs: unable to read superblock
such file or directory
Verifying ...
sha1sum: .sha1: No such file or directory
not verified
losetup: Segmentation fault
mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on /mnt/root failed
Error mounting root fs
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

I then created the second partition

/mnt/base/os $ fdisk /dev/hda

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/hda: 1024 MB, 1024966656 bytes
32 heads, 63 sectors/track, 993 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2016 * 512 = 1032192 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 125 125968+ 6 FAT16
/dev/hda2 126 993 874944 83 Linux

However when I then tried the genunion command, the response is as follows

/mnt/base/os $ genunion /dev/hda2
/bin/sh: genunion: not found
/mnt/base/os $

Unfortunately I won't be able to get back to this for several weeks, but thought I would post my findings in the hope that it is useful for you.

Thanks for all your hard work.
David
