Feeling like a total newbie on this...Following the instructions on http://www.astlinux.org/node/28 I looked at http://www.djhsolutions.com/astlinux for a runnix-serial.img.gz to use on my Net5501. I don't see one under the main directory but do under a directory named obsolete. Using the "obsolete" one I can create a CF that boots into runnix.
Being unable to build my own copy of 0.6.1 due to the issues with Rhino, I use the astlinux-0.6.1-net5501.iso from http://www.djhsolutions.com/astlinux and copy everything from the /os directory into the equivalent one on the CF. But there are no files with a suffix of ".run" and there are no files with ".sha1" suffixes either. There is a astlinux-0.6.1.run.conf which I guess might be the ".run" file.
I make several tries with various names for astlinux-0.6.1.run.conf and also running openssl against the file to create a sha1 signature. In all these cases the Net5501 ends up failing to mount the root filesystem. If the file is left with a .conf name I also a "failed to find a .run file" error message. And the .sha1 files I am making do not seem to be correct as runnix complains. But in all cases I end up with a failure to mount the root file system:
Verifying astlinux-0.6.1.run... astlinux-0.6.1.run not verified mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on /mnt/root failed Error mounting astlinux-0.6.1.run root fs /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off /mnt/base/os $
But I am working with a runnix from a directory labeled "obsolete". Maybe it is obsolete for a reason....
So I try to use the long method also listed for putting runnix on the CF by manually creating and mounting a partition, etc. When doing so I use the files from the rootfs_vfat directory of the runnix-0.2.1.tar.gz file found in the astlinux-0.6.1-net5501.iso. (Totally by hand and also trying to use the install shell script found in the runnix.tar.gz file.) When I try that I can't even get runnix to come up, the boot sequence stops at:
Loading runnix............................... Loading runnix.img
If anyone has a copy of the bash terminal output where they have successfully made a CF for a Net5501 from the astlinux-0.6.1- net5501.iso could you please send it to me? I must be doing something consistently wrong. I hope it is something simple...
Thanks! --Tod
