It is impossible to do PPPoA in software as the physical interface is Ethernet and there is no such thing as a modem that has a physical ATM interface. All ADSL Modems and Routers use PPPoA to connect to the WAN interface and in the case of Ethernet routers simply provide an IP address using DHCP. If however you want to avoid the NAT included in an ADSL router you can use something like the X-Modem M3 that will forward the external IP address to the Astlinux box.
