Chris,

Here's another way to look at it:

You aren't selling a PC, you are selling a dedicated piece of electronics -- like a router with {pbx} benefits. The name soekris shouldn't even com e into the conversation, imo. If they want to see names, then talk to soekris about a paint job on the box of your design... create a logo, paint it blue, or black or some cool color with a snazzy name -- soekris claims they will do this is min lots of 100, but they will do 20 cases, and then hold them for you to ship if desired. Then you can sell the 100% solid state no moving parts, treat it like a router deal.

hth,

Ron

In my seemingly never ending quest for business-worthy hardware to run astlinux on.. im wondering if anyone has ever run it on an HP T 5545 Thin client... ive heard of it on the T 5710... but I believe that's EOL now...

I Love the soekris hardware.. but it seems potential customers out there just are not too hip on what is a smaller "hobbyist" as they call it product.. never mind the fact soekris has been around for a while now....

They like to see big names... I don't want to run a full blown PC for a system that will max out at 20 simultaneous calls.. all SIP no compression, no transcoding (same codec all the way through(ulaw))... So im open to suggestions... I like some of the ALIX products.. however im a bit concerned about the 256 MB of RAM.. I really like to have 512 MB of RAM since im running some PHP apps (PHP loves RAM)....

Personally the net5501 fits the bill perfectly ... but they want to see "big names" I guess...

Suggestions on hardware you use for this type of system? (big and small names)

Im running a custom image that has been greatly slimmed down.. (asterisk only loads 29 modules).. no firewall, no routing, SIP to adtran gateways for PSTN access... etc..... I do use some PHP with the aastra phones....and some AGI scripts...
