That's correct, you'd need an ADSL NIC.  There's the Solos card from Traverse 
Technologies.

Yawarra sells it, but I think there's a European distributor as well.

PPPoA is for now impossible just because of some missing scripting glue, but 
I'm think that's not more than a few hours work to cobble up.

Why is your DSL limited to 832kb/s?
