I understand that's your employer, but in my experience having a black box 
that doesn't give me visibility into the connection state easily (SNR, 
attenuation, constellation/bits per bin, etc) isn't nearly as useful as having 
an ADSL NIC actually in the router itself that can be easily queried for 
performance.

For instance, in one scenario we had a line that would train up at different 
speeds depending on how much rain we got...  which messed with traffic-shaping.

We could either crank the shaping way down to "work case", or we could script 
the box to query the NIC for the actual speed and then plug that value into the 
traffic shaping config.

Worked out quite nicely.

Not something I could have done with an external modem.
