One of the things I have done that has helped greatly with my net5501
installs is to slim down and get rid of anything I do not need / use..
Astlinux by itself is pretty lean and mean!.. however asterisk itself
still loads the full set of modules... I find I only need 31 modules loaded
for my setups as opposed to the 140+ asterisk will load using a full
auto-load.. you might try unloading modules you do not need and see if you
can get the usage down... it may also be that the Burst network traffic is
causing some of the SIP packets to be lost going to your handsets..

If you are sending out an "all sets page".. you may want to write a script
that puts just a bit of a delay in to allow the network to handle the
traffic... or perhaps go to sip TCP instead of UDP if your version of
asterisk and the handsets will support it.. this would give a lot better
chance of the packets making it...

The other thing I do is use only ulaw for handsets connected to the LAN..
and all my voice files are also in ulaw.. so this way im not doing any
compression and no true transcoding as all handsets are communicating with
asterisk in the same CODEC, and also voice files don’t have to be converted
either...

All these things together have allowed me to have great success with CPU /
RAM usage in general on my net5501's

Thanks, Kris. It seems to work with a good few more than that, but some
simply never kick in. It doesn't seem adversely to affect the box otherwise.
However, I'll try changing it down to one or two handsets per room, and see
if that works better.

Thanks again

Tom
