OK, I had the right statement, but I put it in the wrong place! Now that I 
removed the bridge statement from rc.conf and added it to user.conf, the bridge 
works fine. In general, is there any reason for us to edit anything in rc.conf?

You need to add:

BRIDGE0="eth1 eth2 eth3 eth4"

to your /mnt/kd/rc.conf.d/user.conf file via the Network tab...
