It's hard to recommend the Yahoo module as a best practice when the spec has been broken for years, and Yahoo is apparently incapable of fixing it, despite having know of the problem for more than 6 months now (at least).
Also, it would nice if whatever you did still worked (albeit with less functionality) with clients that weren't aware of your extensions. That means using a basic Atom enclosure link as your starting point, and then adding any extensions on top of that.
