I think the nvidia drivers were updated because of incompatibility 
issues with an xorg update (there were a lot of path changes).  9639 is 
supposed to address those changes. 

I've always had to manually update nvidia packages by listing all of the 
nvidia graphics packages, find the newest, install, and uninstall the 
old packages.  This only happens when I do a kernel upgrade.  I have to 
manually update most of my other kmdls after I do a kernel upgrade as well.
