Well, the other night, I was doing just that (looking at ivtv) and not having a real clue what I was doing I stumbled across a video4linux-kmdl which matched the version number of the kernel and nvidia-kmdl. After I installed - viola! pvr cards are back. I really don't know what I was doing wrong before that caused this module not to be pulled down when I upgraded. But, all is good now.
