Hi,
I tried to upgrade mythtv from 0.23.1 to 0.24 for the third time,
and the problems persist. Every time I change my live tv channel
I lost the sound. If I insist, the front end crashes.
I must say, that myth only worked for my hardware (an inexpensive pixelview
card, and intel on-board sound)
using dsp. If I try pulse or alsa, the sound was completely out of sync on
myth 0.23, and unless I used 48000Hz samples,
the frequencies were always in the low ranges, which make human voices kind
of "different".
I read that the sound was rewritten for 0.24, and I think that is where the
danger lives: the developers never
accepted that pulse-audio came to stay. They have dozen of sound options,
where only one really matters.
But I see three major points where myth is really inadequate:
1) It uses an awkward codec - nupel video - which nobody uses or likes.
That is why people are so eager after nuvexport....
2) It provides a buggy default internal player (no subtitles, messed sound
playing mp4 videos), when there is either mplayer or vlc
available, which are both light years ahead.
3) They do not like pulseaudio.
Mythtv has lots of qualities, which surpass it flaws for most people, and it
is free.
However, I would like to see those points at least taken into consideration
in the future.
