Thanks, but as I have written some time ago, "smartparens" is not smart
enough to deal with (La)TeX parens anyway.  (And I'm curious whether it
handles other strange cases I wrote about, like
  $ \bigl( ... \bigr\rangle $
etc.)  Also, introducing a dependency on smartparens into AUCTeX might
not be the best idea.
