Having gotten a mac myself recently(long story) I'm sort of in the same boat as you.
Even if you were able to make a mud client work on OS X, the the mud client will most likely not support the sound packs that exist for other clients. I.E windows mud clients.
I have no clue about alter, but there seem to be a few sound packs for tintin++ on biriani. I haven't tried any of them myself,and couldn't say if any or 1 of them is better than the other.
And considering the fact that there are sound packs for the tintin client, I'm thinking it should work fairly well if not great with voiceover or I dam well hope so,at any rate.
edit: the @soundpacks command when logged into biriani should bring up a list of all the sound packs submitted by their developers to biriani.
