Oh, one of my favorite IF games. Hints from vague to explicit:
Hint 1: Has the student told you anything about who is attacking his program?
Hint 2: How could this information be used to crack the encryption?
Hint 3: Pay attention to the - sign in the message.
Hint 4: The minus sign is not encrypted, it's the same in both messages. So what could it mean?
Hint 5: After the minus sign, the attacker signs with their name.
Solution: Decrypt the last part, after the minus, so that it spells "Ivory Worm". Then you should have enough letters right to crack other unknown words in the text. For example, you could decrypt easy, small words like "the", "a" and so on and the message should become clearer and clearer.
