I'm not really sure of all the details beyond here. A starting point would be to get the IEC spec (sorry I forget the number) which is about 60 CHF. Then figure out the source bit-rate, see what a DVD player is transmitting (maybe record it with an s/pdif input sound card) and go from there. I expect it could be done in less that 100 lines of code (perl, C, whatever) as a standalone app taking DTS in and outputting WAV.
