I haven't done careful listening comparisons. I use my external dac and I'm happy with it. :)
On the power supply, yes there are two known off-the-shelf supplies that are linear and work. (elpac and hosfelt) I'm sure the Bolder ps is superior to either of those. I have the hosfelt, and it hums loud enough that i have to unplug it to go to sleep. I don't hear it when listening to music, but afterwards. Wayne's ps does not hum and if it did he'd fix it for you. I don't want to comment on whether something would be worth it for someone.
