The way I see it, tracks are levelled to some predefined value IE I see
a modern rock album with -11db and something like Brothers In Arms gets
+7db. Maybe if we could have a positive setting on the Preamp Volume
Control setting or a gain offset that can be applied when using replay
gain then the output level could be the same as before (J River Media
Centre has an 'Adjustment' setting that does just that, see attached) 
Obviously the output stage of the SB can handle the levels because it
would restore the rock album to it's previous level - OK Brothers in
Arms would be a damn site louder too :-)
