Have you tried putting the WAV files you generated on the slimserver
and playing them over SB and SoftSqueeze?  It does sound like either
the FAAD processing or the on-the-fly FLAC conversion (or the FLAC
decoding in SB/SS - I hope not!).  Trying the "good" WAV files on
slimserver would at least eliminate the FLAC part as a culprit.
