Because SlimServer is flawed as it stands in not being multi-threaded and being very, very slow at times. Java has some good features for supporting threads and runs very fast on modern VMs. The SlimServer library scan times alone are enough to make me switch to another product today. You also have to examine whether this is the right foundation for the server over the next few years as competition hots up. I don't think it is, based on my software development experience, but everyone is free to disagree. My company uses Perl and Java and in my experience Perl is good for building software applications, not being the software application. All my opinion only, of course, but it is based on using all the aformentioned technologies and feedback from developers on their strengths and weaknesses. -- CardinalFang ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CardinalFang's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=962 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18991 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
