I still don't understand this mentality that early adopters have to spread the techno-gospel, so to speak. Who cares if everyone uses the SqueezeBox? Do you all really think development and support of the SqueezeBox will stop if it doesn't become a mass-market gadget? Look, there have only been a few specific brand-name gadgets that become pop-culture phenomenon:
portable music players: Sony Walkman, Apple iPod game consoles: Atari, Nintendo, and Sony computers: Apple Macintosh That's about it. Every other "gadget" essentially became a commodity. There's almost no realistic chance for the SqueezeBox to gain a place in that vaulted pantheon of consumer electronics lore. What you all are implicitly ignoring is the fact that the market really isn't that big for this kind of product. The markets for portable music players (going back to the "boombox"), PC's, and video game consoles are huge. Seriously, how big do you all think the market for 2-channel streaming, hi-fi digital network media gateways is? Heck, it takes me about 10 minutes to just explain the product category to people. You all have great intentions, but is the hype really necessary or even warranted? -- ezkcdude ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ezkcdude's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2545 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19656 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
