Thanks for the comprehensive post, there was some new stuff about 20 bit
DACs I hadn't seen explained here before. As regards volume controls they
have been discussed in some detail before so it would probably be worth
browsing the forum archive.

On the specific point of

This is implemented in 2 forms,

a) when at maximum volume then the data is not adjusted at all (ie scale
factor is 256 not 255)

b) if you're still uncomfortable you can disable the volume control on the
digital out. It's a per player setting found at 'Home / Player Settings  /
Audio'. The setting is labelled 'Digital Volume Control'
